Why Lus
Computers are everywhere, but for many people they remain a magic box. If you see what happens step by step, you understand it, and then you can build, choose and protect things yourself. Lus lets you look under the bonnet, calmly and without fear.
Four blocks, always in the same order
Why, See it, Get it, Do it. Then the pitfalls, where you come across it in real life, a bit of history and a question for the dinner table. Every topic shows what you need to know first and what comes next.
Blocks and real code that always add up
You see every program in Lus twice: as blocks in your own language and as code like in Python. Our own interpreter runs it in your browser, step by step. Thousands of programs and exercises per topic are tested automatically, so the code you read always does what it says.
Who makes Lus
Lus is made by Neal Van de Velde (nealvdv), who also made Draad, Ruit and Spoor. Questions, mistakes or ideas are always welcome.
Calm and private
No ads, no tracking, no compulsory account, no streaks or notifications that make you feel guilty. What you can do is stored only on your own device. That way Lus does itself what it teaches you.
What does Draft mean?
A topic with the Draft label has been written with care, but has not yet been checked by a computing teacher. Only after that check does the label disappear. If you spot a mistake, let us know.

Lus and Kaft
Lus is part of Kaft, a family of learning apps with an app of its own for every subject. Part of Lus is free, for the rest we ask a fair price. That way Lus stays free of ads and tracking.
What does Lus cost?
The learning path and the first 3 topics are free. For all of Lus, choose one of these plans:

There is also a family plan, a school plan and a free social rate.
You sign in and pay on Kaft. After that, every topic opens.

Where we come from
Lus is made from a Christian conviction: every child is valuable, and what we can make and think up, we may use to serve others. The subject matter itself is ordinary, honest computing.
