Debugging: finding the mistake

Almost every program has a mistake at first. Debugging means calmly looking for where it goes wrong and fixing that one line.

Lower secondary (grade 1)11 to 14 yearsDraft: Not yet checked by a computing teacher.

Why

Your robot was supposed to reach the flag, but it bumps into a wall. Does that mean your whole program is wrong?

Usually not. Often there is just one line that has to be different: a turn to the left that should have been to the right, a loop that runs one time too many.

Such a mistake is called a bug. Every programmer makes bugs, even the best. The difference is that you learn to find them calmly.
