Spotting phishing

Phishing is a fake message that wants to fish for your password or your details. With a few fixed signs you can spot it, and then you calmly do nothing.

Years 5 and 6 of primary10 to 14 yearsDraft: Not yet checked by a computing teacher.

Why

You get a message: your parcel cannot be delivered, click this link within 2 hours. What do you do?

A message like that wants you to act fast, without thinking. That is exactly what scammers want: for you to click, log in on a fake page and give away your password or code.

That is called phishing, from the English word fishing: they throw out bait and hope someone bites. If you know the signs, you do not bite.
